By Haruki Murakami
'The Strange Library' by Haruki Murakami is a vividly illustrated, surreal and twisting novel that follows a young boy's trip to the city library that quickly turns nightmarish. The young protagonist is led by his obedient and naive nature to an underground labyrinth beneath the library, where he must stay before meeting a grisly end. Eventually, he tries to escape with the help of the apologetic sheep man and a beautiful, ethereal girl who seems to only exist in the protagonist's and her worlds. This short, sparely written book will change how one thinks about libraries and life. You can read it many times and not get tired of it, 'The Strange Library' was a very unique and enticing read. I would recommend it to everyone from middle schoolers to older adults.
