Review of Fever 1793

By Laurie Halse Anderson

Full of twists and turns, as well as sadness, Fever 1793 is a page turner. The novel is based on a true epidemic of yellow fever the swept through Philadelphia, killing thousands of people. Readers see the growth of Mattie who starts as a careless adolescent and eventually becomes a very mature young woman who deeply cares about the well being of others. I recommend this novel to others- it’s both informative of our history and it’s incredibly moving.
