Stephan, Sofia, and Ivan live in a world of Supernormals. Supernormals are people and animals that aren’t exactly people and animals. For instance, a giant goat with wings is a Supernormal.

         The Sphinxes in front of the New York public library tell riddles to the people who want the items inside the cabinet of wonders. If a person or animal answers the riddle correctly, they get to choose any item from the cabinet and keep it.

      When a man named Edmund knew the answer right off the top of his head, they knew that he had cheated. He took a wand and used the wand to make himself king over all the Supernormals.

         Right before he is crowned king. Sofia uses her sword to crack his wand in half, so that he is no longer able to be made king.
